ORTEGA: With summer quickly approaching, seniors will soon enter college life.
With the end of the school year approaching, Poly’s seniors are soon going to graduate, with many going straight into college. Lexsie Ortega, a senior this year and has mixed feelings about leaving Poly.
Being a senior is different for each individual, some are excited to leave and move on while others cling to the familiarity of high school. Lexsie knows that she “will miss Poly because it was like her other home,”but is also exhilarated to move forward in life, and is especially excited to explore what college life will look like for her. Currently, Lexsie works at Chick-fil-A to get cash and some experience in a job before college. More specifically, she is excited to go to either San Marcos or San Diego State University to pursue her dream of becoming a preschool teacher.
Lexsie is a part of Poly’s great Avid program and believes that “it truly has helped with college.” She is exceedingly glad that she joined Avid. Mr. Lexsie expresses her gratitude for Mr. Schulte, the senior AVID teacher here at Poly, who has pushed Lexsie to “do better and to never settle for less,” no matter what obstacles come her way.
Lexsie encourages freshman and lower classman to be outgoing and to try something new, even if it is out of their comfort zone. One thing that she has regretted during her high school years is not joining a sport at Poly. She always wanted to, but she was too shy, and now wishes that she can go back and change that decision. Her word of advice is to never “change yourself for people, be yourself, and always try everything”. With these departing words, she will keep her head up and look forward to the future walking into the new, unexpected life that is college.
