INVINCIBLE: Poly bears dominate at the homecoming game and 2021 Homecoming King and Queen crowned.
Poly pride is incredibly prevalent across campus after the unbelievable 42-7 win the Poly football team pulled off at Saturday night’s game. After almost two years in isolation without events such as these, hundreds of students and family members were in attendance to celebrate the return. Following an event-filled week, including float building and the homecoming parade, Poly students were eager for an exciting end to the homecoming festivities. That exciting end came after the captivating football game. Offensive lineman and Captain of Poly’s football team, Enrique Guzman (12), explained more about Saturday’s game and about the season in general. When asked about how the season is turning out for the Bears, Guzman exclaimed that “it’s actually going pretty good”. Regarding Saturday’s game specifically, he clarified that the team used the “same game plan [they] always use”, but that they had brought in a few JV players. Guzman further explained that he has high hopes for the rest of the season, and that the team’s ultimate goal is to “finish off this season really well so that [they] can go to playoffs”. Considering the wins they have been pulling off lately, that goal seems more and more likely.
Not only was the game itself enthralling, but the halftime activities delighted as well. During halftime, all of the homecoming nominees lined the field in their best black-tie attire after being announced by Maggie Roemer (12) and Peter Krieger (11). After the top five nominees were announced, the final winners were announced and crowned by Mr. Hansen himself. The Homecoming King and Queen winners are Adam Figueroa (12) and Maribel Gutierrez (12), both from Poly Principle Centered Leadership (PCL). Each homecoming activity has proved to be a glowing success, with a final sweet victory to end the long-awaited festivities.
