CHANGES: Poly’s exciting new building and future additions to the campus.
For the past year or so, the Poly campus has seen many changes. From the Bear Den to the Polywood Bowl. The campus looks completely different than before. For the most part, construction on the school is done, but there still remains one mysterious building that isn’t completely finished yet. For the past several months, construction of this new building has been taking place on our school campus. Mr. Hansen, our principal, was a wealth of information on the construction as well as other exciting future plans for the campus and school as a whole.
The building is an auxiliary gymnasium, which serves several purposes. Due to the large amount of athletic teams we have and the small amount of space for practice, practices often end really late. However, with the addition of this new gymnasium, there will be another place for athletic teams to practice. The new building will also allow us to have more lower level games such as junior varsity and freshmen games. The gymnasium will not just benefit our athletics; another one of the many purposes of this building is to provide an indoor place for people to eat on one of those many especially hot days, which will also result in less cramped lunch areas. Regardless of the weather, it will be very nice to have another space to eat lunch. The side of the building will feature paintings of the infamous Poly logo. Poly’s new addition to the campus is currently scheduled to be done in May.
There is another upcoming addition to the Poly campus called the Bears of Distinction. The Bears of Distinction will showcase the achievements of Poly graduates throughout the entire history of Poly (going all the way back to 1892) across all clubs and athletic teams. It will be updated every year with a new set of graduates and their accomplishments. The Bears of Distinction will be located right outside the school.
There are not any currently known future projects for the school campus besides the new auxiliary gymnasium and the Bears of Distinction. Mr. Hansen is shifting his focus away from the campus itself and more towards the students and how he can improve the school environment in all aspects. The future for both the campus and the school environment itself is very exciting. There are many improvements underway that will improve Poly and ensure that it remains the best high school for ALL students.
