A New Era for Cross Country

TRANSITION: The Poly Cross Country team kicks off their 2018-2019 season with a new head coach.

Poly’s Cross Country program is well known for its athletic success rates and scholarly athletes. Starting off the season with a new head coach, nothing is holding the team back from achieving success. Mr. John Enyeart, who teaches Video Production, Graphic Design and History at Poly, will be leading the team as head coach for the 2018-2019 school year.

Although this is Enyeart’s first year as the head coach for Cross Country, it is not his first year training with the student-athletes on the team. ¨I’ve been coaching Cross Country as an assistant for the past nine years. But, this is my first year as the head coach. And I’ve been coaching with the track team for 15 years,¨ Enyeart said. With all of the experience that Enyeart brings, the Cross Country team is in good hands as they begin their new season.

According to Enyeart, one of the things he looks forward to during the upcoming season is seeing his student-athletes push themselves to achieve greatness for not only their team, but for their own personal success as well. ¨We have some solid individuals that work really hard. This year, they’re stepping it up and they have been training really hard so I can’t wait to see them actually race,¨ Enyeart states. Enyeart is looking forward to this season knowing that the students on the team are all very dedicated to their sport, and will push themselves until they reach their ultimate goals.

Knowing how effective their training is and how it translates in the races, Enyeart finds it effective to keep his student-athletes training the same way they did previous years. ¨Coach Ibarra is my friend,  he was the one who was the head coach. We worked really closely together and put together what we both think is a winning program. And so, realistically speaking, it is continuing what we have been doing,¨ Enyeart indicates. Being able to train student-athletes in a productive and competitive style that pushes them to their best ability is an excellent way to train. The fact that the former head coach, Coach Ibarra, and the new head coach, Coach Enyeart, were able to create an effective training program that works well with their student-athletes was imperative. Through this program, Enyeart can receive the best results from his runners.

The student-athletes on Cross Country have began their practice for this season and are all working hard to claim the league championship for the 2018-2019 school year. The athletes must be committed to balancing their education and athletics, something that Poly Bears take pride in doing. With hard work,  promising athletes, and dedicated coaches, there is nothing this team cannot achieve.
