Poly High School is pleased to announce that Kari McGowan will be the newest addition to Poly’s staff. McGowan, who is new to Riverside, has worked all over the Hemet Unified School District (HUSD) as an educator. She will take over as Assistant Principal of Discipline, a position formerly occupied by Mr. Brian Frost.

When taking on a new position, one faces new challenges; McGowan’s situation is no different. Fortunately, McGowan is well-equipped to tackle the unique leadership responsibilities that come with her position.  “I worked all over Hemet Unified School District for ten years. The last high school I taught at, for five years, was Tahquitz High School as a teacher for the Associated Student Body (ASB) program and an activities director,” McGowan said. In these positions, she spent the majority of her time working with students, planning events, and managing security at the school all roles she must play as an assistant principal as well.

In her short time at the school, McGowan has developed far-reaching plans to benefit Poly. “I am working on getting another leadership type class going, in addition to ASB and Link Crew.” The new class, Principles of Leadership, will be focusing on social justice and celebrating every student and staff member at Poly for the hard work they display. “We currently have it on the books, and Miss Laura Nelson will be teaching it,” McGowan said.

Poly welcomes McGowan with open arms and wishes her an amazing time on campus.

“I hope to be part of the Poly family for a long time. Everyone’s been so welcoming; the students and staff are great” McGowan said.
