Sep 6, 2024

Questions Asked By: Spotlight Staffers

We asked Poly Students on the first week of school…

Is Poly football taking it home this year?

Isaac Villegas (11th): “I fear we are going to lose again. There may be one win but that is it.”

Nicholas Val (12th): “Yes. They have heart, determination, and an awful record that they gotta fix, and I think this year is the time they fix it.”

Matthew Grigsby (11th): “No, absolutely not. They couldn’t do it last year, and they won’t do it this year. It’s like an endless cycle of sorrow, and we can’t escape.”

Elizabeth Chinchilla (12th): “I think so. I’ve heard a lot of good things. I think we’re absolutely gonna bleep (actual words) on King.”

Sam Bonzoumet (12th): “Well we went to the finals last year.. I’m a big believer in high potential.. High risk high reward.. And you know what, I say we’re taking it home, cause, you know what? I got heart, this team got heart, and if we got heart, it means we’re bringing it fricking home! Yessir!”

Emily Moreno (12th): “I think that the new generation is going to save us and save our team.”

Alexa Pulido (10th): “It’s gonna be bad.”

What are your biggest fear for the year?

Michael Concha (9th): “Getting lost. Like going to the wrong classroom and then sitting down and then having to go back to another classroom because that’s not your class.”

Joshua Sanchez (10th): “For me to get bad grades again, because my mom says she will kick me out of the school.”

Caleb Schiessel (12th): “Failing my two senior classes, because then I don’t know what I’m supposed to do. If I fail those I can’t graduate and I really want to graduate.”

Lana Harriman (11th): “My biggest fear this school year is not being able to see all my friends. Well, because of the two lunch schedule, I’m not gonna be able to see everybody and I wish I could. It’ll prevent spending time with everyone properly.”

Brooklyn Hasler (11th): “I’m most nervous for finals week. Especially because Junior year is always said to be the hardest out of all four years in high school.”

Cadence Esterling (12th): “Not getting into college.”

Frida Blass (12th): “Balancing everything, being so involved in school, and college applications are just a lot, as well as AP classes, sports, and having a social life are all a lot to maintain.”
